  Steve is a website member from Houston, Texas who visits DC every now and then and has stopped in to see me at Woodmont once before. This video looks at a 2 hours session we did this week, and I used the live audio camera to capture us working together on the range after I looked at his initial swings. Online Students: Jon Lindstrom

  This is another example of an excellent swing with weakness at impact caused by a variety of factors which have to be traced all the way back to the beginning of the motion. We don’t have to bother with Jon’s set-up or grip, as they look fine here. We can, however, start with the takeaway, as the club comes back a bit closed and under the shaft plane line. Swing Analysis: D.A. Points and Billy Horschel

  Two excellent swings here side by side as they battled it out in Texas on Sunday. These are both technically sound swings, with no funky moves and a lot of great positions to go with nice, aggressive rhythm. On display are two nicely on plane takeaways, well positioned shafts at the top, great looking “out” moves toward the ball in transition, and left releases with plenty of right side “cover”. Both players use the ground quite well, with Points making a very noticeable “down” move to start his forward swing. Lesson of the Week: Bret Templeton

  This one should really give you hope that you can change an overall swing pattern in a relatively short period of time. Bret came to see me about a year ago and I had him work on some of the same things you will see here, but nothing really changed and we were again at a point where the swing pattern was so in-to-out that all he could hit were hooks that started well right, with the added attraction of the random fat and thin shot thrown in. Online Students: Jeff Paduch

  Anyone watching Jeff’s swing at regular speed would be challenged to come up with any obvious errors to work on. Jeff’s weakness is at impact, and as we all know impact happens too fast to see without the use of video to slow down the movement. When we do slow it down, though, it becomes apparent why Jeff’s club/ball contact might be a bit erratic, and his ability to control trajectory could be compromised by his weakness in the impact area. Update on Ben Silverman: Ready for his First Web.Com Event

Some great news for my young professional student Ben Silverman: he survived a playoff to qualify for this week’s Web.Com Tour event in Athens, Georgia after shooting 68 in the qualifier. This is a welcome success after narrowly missing (1 shot) the Canadian Tour qualifying event held in California last month. We are all excited for Ben and want to wish him the best of luck. He has been working hard on some pretty major swing changes and is feeling good about his swing and his overall game. Playing for Money: Ben Silverman Part 3

  It’s always satisfying to see any player, talented or not, take in new information and incorporate the changes to improve their swing technique. If you compare Ben’s swing now to what it was 5 months ago you will see how much work he has done to completely change his pattern from a vertical hand drop in transition to a beautiful “out” move that keeps the shaft above his right forearm in the forward swing and allows him to swing left through impact. We have pretty much changed everything at least a little, including strengthening his grip, getting the takeaway to follow the shaft plane and work to more of a toe up position at shaft parallel to the ground, [...]
