Some great news for my young professional student Ben Silverman: he survived a playoff to qualify for this week’s Web.Com Tour event in Athens, Georgia after shooting 68 in the qualifier. This is a welcome success after narrowly missing (1 shot) the Canadian Tour qualifying event held in California last month. We are all excited for Ben and want to wish him the best of luck. He has been working hard on some pretty major swing changes and is feeling good about his swing and his overall game. Go get ‘em Ben! Click here track him during the tournament starting Thursday May 2nd Click a link to check out Wayne’s work with Ben so far: Playing for Money: [...]

“In the box” is a phrase I have coined to highlight the importance of having the hips stay deep during the swing. If the head stays out over the ball the deepening of the hips produces an increase in posture during the swing, which means that the head of the golfer will lower both in the backswing and in the first part of the downswing. The Golf Posture Pod is a device that allows you to train this movement while visually measuring whether or not you are being successful at your attempt to deepen the hips during the swing. If you have watched any of my lesson videos you must have noticed that a common mistake among amateur players [...]

There is very little original thought on display in golf instruction, and the truth is that every morsel of such originality is eventually taken by those who are looking for ideas and used for their own benefit. In some cases the ideas are paraphrased to make it seem that they weren’t borrowed, and in other cases the owner of the original thought is credited for the information, which is, of course, the more honest way to do things. There are other instances in which information is blatantly plagiarized and no credit is given, which is what I believe is on display in this video. The irony here is that Chamblee took great pains to disparage me and my teaching [...]

Not much to say here except that this is the best golf swing I have seen (of course, this is my opinion: that’s what you get here at WDGLC) I have seen since Hogan. I can’t imagine how the rest of the competitors, and that includes Rory McIlroy, are going to beat him if he is even somewhat “on”. It would appear that his short game, putting, and shot making abilities have returned full force, and his swing is better than ever, and I include any of the years that people will bring up, including 2000. I realize that he played better in 2000 than any other year (“played” in italics) and hit the ball great, but I think [...]

We all know that Calvin Peete was one of the most accurate drivers of the golf ball who ever played the game. We probably have some memory of Peete’s swing, a bit odd looking due to a poorly set broken arm as a youth, but the main memory is of a ball rolling down the fairway. Peete was the Tour’s leader in percentage of fairways hit for 10 consecutive years, and won 11 Tour events in 5 years from 1983-88 before Tourette ’Syndrome drove him off the Tour and eventually out of competitive golf. Peete’s swing is built around his misshapen arm, and his routing of the club combined with his exotic wrist action in transition and through [...]

I am often asked why I chose to start the website, and I can honestly say that it just occurred to me one day that it would be a cool thing to do. I had been using the V1 to send video summaries of lessons to students, and it seemed like it would nice to have a bigger repository for those and for the information I had been coming up with over the years as a player and a teacher. I feel that a lot of what I do is original (seeking to be original is the main reason I have mostly avoided either taking lessons or watching other teachers teach, and I have noticed that our business is one [...]

Chris: The fastest way to get good at golf is to focus on the target and try to hit it while constantly making adjustments and trying to figure out what works for you. You learn much faster that way than having some teaching pro hammering swing thoughts into your head or repeating the same movement over and over again. Learning golf is about making mistakes and finding an individual solution, not about repeating a swing method over and over again. It´s not about hitting some lines on a video screen, it´s about being able to hit golf shots on the course under pressure. Wayne: Good for you. When you keep making the same mistakes and stop getting better, or [...]

This is a truly solid looking swing. The backswing mechanics are impeccable, with a pivot driven takeaway, solid leg action, on plane club movement, and excellent wrist and hand movement keeping the face nice and neutral throughout. The surprising thing is the lack of dynamics, meaning no lowering and relatively little wrist cock. However, the forward swing begins in sequence with a nice compression into the ground and plenty of lateral push while the wrist cock that was gained in the backswing (never more than 90 degrees to the left arm) is retained beautifully past the ball. He also exhibits the “out” move with the hands from the top, as the grip end heads right at the ball in transition. [...]

You can disagree all you want, but your opinion isn’t the golf gospel. Look at how many of your videos are to prove someone else is wrong. There was a thread on you over at golfwrx where a number of others feel the same way. You’re using video of one of the instructors and reading from Mr. Hardy’s book, but the pictures in his book are more accurate to what he is describing than the video.
